A RIO CLASSIC
Copacabana is one of the most iconic neighborhoods in Brazil — and in the world. Until the late 19th century, it was an isolated area with limited access. The name comes from a chapel dedicated to the Virgin of Copacabana, originally venerated in Bolivia.
That all changed in 1892 with the opening of the old tunnel connecting the South Zone to downtown. Copacabana quickly became a symbol of elegance, culture, and nightlife — the birthplace of Bossa Nova and home to artists, intellectuals, and international jet-setters.
